In one day 3 little dogs were dumped at the shelter. 3 yorkshire terrier (mixes), one of them thrown over the wall at Ana's house. That's reality in La Linea de Conception and in many other cities in Spain.

Lies Goemans is an artist and has a daily project called "happy-mini-mail". This means she paints a painting of 5x5 cm every day and she sends it around the world so you can receive a free paintin in your mailbox every day. People all over the world receive her little paintings.

A few weeks ago a few old sandkennels were torn down to make place for new ones. The dogs in that area are now protected against heavy rain and extreme heat. Today we heard the happy news that Franck and Resi will sponsor 7 new kennels! Thank you so much for this generous donation!

Now 2012 has started we look back at the previous year and we do that with pride.

Of course there have been things and situations in Spain the previous year that brought us to tears. painful and tragic suffering of animals in 2011 and many times Peter and his team had to make difficult, impossible and hard choices. There were tough times and sometimes the better days just didn't seem to come.

At a moment like that, a wonderful thing happened. The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, with help from Rob Hoogland, opened up a "bridge in the air" together with Transavia.

Viervoeters werden dankzij het 4 oktober artikel gezien en geadopteerd en vlogen naar hun nieuwe baasjes. Een geweldige Telegraafactie die de vergeten kanjers van La Linea een “snuit” gaf en bij honden liefhebbend Nederland onder de aandacht bracht.

Er volgde wel een probleem…..

Namens het  team in Spanje en Nederland danken wij u allen voor de steun en het vertrouwen in het afgelopen jaar en wensen u en de dieren een heel gelukkig en diervriendelijk 2012.  In het asiel smult het team inmiddels van de door Peter gebakken tradtionele oliebollen .

Het eind van 2011 is bijna een feit, oliebollen, vuurwerk en gezellig samenzijn met familie en vrienden.  De tijd van het jaar waarop goede voornemens met stellige overtuiging worden uitgesproken en met de nodige passie zullen worden nagestreefd.

Vele van ons zullen “stoppen met roken, minder en gezonder eten en meer bewegen” op het bekende lijstje hebben staan. Tja… ook ik ambieer enkele van de bovengenoemde maar ik heb toch ook nog een ander goed voornemen. Eentje die zeer waarschijnlijk niet op veel lijstjes zal voorkomen, eentje die ik met mijn hart heb genomen en ik het allerliefst wil waarmaken.

Wij willen "kleine oma" Jose van Schilt zo ontzettend bedanken voor het maken van die unieke super leuke Tassels.

Deze sleutelhangers of tassenhangers maakt zij voor ons. Deze zijn te koop voor maar € 5,95 per stuk inclusief portokosten.

De opbrengst gaat naar het asiel van Peter!

We hebben heel lang achter dit hondje aan lopen rennen met ons allen. We zagen hem aan de voorkant van het asiel op de weg zitten toen we vanochtend aankwamen. Hij was in de steek gelaten. Maar toen we hem wilden benaderen , liep hij erg snel weg, maar altijd terug naar het punt waar zijn eigenaars hem had achtergelaten. Meestal hopen de  honden dat hun eigenaren terug keren om ze op te halen. Hij gromde en liet ons zijn tanden zien. Sonia bracht voedsel en bood hem aan om dichterbij te komen , maar het was onmogelijk. De auto's reden op volle snelheid langs hem heen. Voordat we in de middag uit het asiel vertrokken, probeerden we gezamenlijk nog een keer om hem te vangen en uiteindelijk zijn we erin geslaagd. Hij is nu veilig in het asiel. Eenmaal veilig stopte hij met grommen. Hij was gewoon erg bang en blijkt dat hij een hele lieve hond is. We schatten dat hij ongeveer 2 jaar oud. Gelukkig hebben we hem kunnen redden en is hij niet overreden door de voorbij razende auto’s.

For more than 40 years Versele-Laga is active in the petfood industry. We thank versele Laga for their generous donation of food for the animals in La Linea de Conception. 

This little female dog of only 2 kilos and 150 grams, 4 years young was saved by the police from an empty house today. The owners had left their home a long time ago. The little dog was just left behind and must have suffered from mange a long time. She is a sweetheart and immediately got treatment.

On the 2nd of September 2011 a true animal lover passed away, Trudi Goedhart - de Jong. She'd loved to visit the shelter of La Linea once more but her dream didn't come true. Her heart lived for the animals. Her last wish was to ask for a donation for the WSPA and Animalinneed. During the evening of her condoleance and the day of her cremation  a collecting-box was there. Trudi thank you so much for everything. We wish her family and friends strength to deal with the loss of a wonderful person.

Over 250 adoptants with 325 dogs from the shelter in La Linea de Conception drove through a thick fog to the woods of Amsterdam for the big Telegraaf walk! From North to south people and dogs came to meet Peter and to walk with him. Natasja Froger was also present with her lovely puppy Saartje. Sjuul Paradijs and Rob Hoogland spoke to Peter and called him the first Telegraaf animalfriend. A very emotional Peter thanked everyone who made this all possible. will be continued...

Next Saturday, the 19th of November the luxuruous trailer from Jeroen Dubbeldam will leave for Spain for a second time. The collected goods like food, medicins, blankets and travelboxes go with the trailer to Spain.

This time the experienced Monique Dubbeldam will drive to Spain together with Harm Hoekstra. On the way back a few lucky dogs will travel along to a warm basket in Holland.

the arrival in Holland will be on Tuesday the 22nd of November around 9.30 am. Stable Sven Harmsen offered their hospitality again.

The Dutch Froger family and other adoptants are very happy with their Spanish "Telegraaf-dog", Rob Hoogland writes in "De Telegraaf" today (18th of November 2011). Read more about the experiences of adoptants on page 5 of De  Telegraaf today.

We'd like to thank the Amercan Classic Car Owners for the great event on the 21st of August. The shelter was put in the spotlights by the owners of these "classic cars". The participants of the "1st Dog Cruise" collected 675 euros together! Amazing!  Click here to see pictures of this wonderful day.

We are currently working very hard to rebuild the kennels in our rescue shelter in La Linea.

Thank you all for the interest in Peter's work and our work. The Second Chance Foundation got so much attention last week, especially after the TV programma "The Reunion". We appreciate every phone call and every mail to show your compassion. Thank you!

Unfortunately we can't give answer to all the help and all the initiatives that were given. This because of reasons based on organising or financing. That doesn't mean we are happy with the offers made. We hope we can keep counting on your support!

"De Telegraaf" will end their wonderful project with a walk in Amsterdam. You and your dog are welcome on Sunday the 20th of November at 10.30 am in "het Amsterdamse bos" in Amsterdam. At paviljoen Chez Favié, playfield 1.  This walk is for all the people who own a dog from La Linea!

Early this morning the dogs who left with Jeroen Dubbeldam's trailer from Spain, arrived in Holland. All dogs were safe and lots of adoptants were waiting for their new dog with emotions on their faces!

Wederom willen wij Dijkstra Plastics BV te Haaksbergen enorm bedanken voor de twee pallets met emmers die wij weer van hun gekregen hebben. Ondanks de geweldige kwaliteit van de emmers hebben onze honden het toch voor elkaar gekregen de eerste twee pallets binnen een jaar de verslijten.

A West Highland White terrier , a female of 2 years young, was dumped at the shelter yesterday the 21st of October 2011. The caretakers at the shelter do whatever's possible to get her healthy again an hope for a a better life and a nice family for her in the future.  We support them, you too?

We named her Ester. She was tied to the fence of the shelter on the 12th of June 2011. Sad, alone and extremely neglected. Abandoned by her "owner".
